About Little Rivers Health Care
In December 2005, we received notice of our designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center. We formally began operations as an FQHC in June of 2006.
What is an FQHC?
FQHCs are expected to provide more comprehensive services than a traditional primary care practice, including access to oral health and dental care, behavioral and mental health services, and care coordination. We receive federal funding to enable us to provide sliding fee discounts to patients whose incomes fall within federal poverty guidelines. This funding is contingent on demonstrating that we meet very high standards in terms of the care we provide and the way we conduct our business.
FQHCs play an increasingly important role in today's health care provider landscape. We deliver care that is more affordable and cost-effective, and more accessible. And we provide care that is as good as, or better than, other primary care providers, as demonstrated by the extensive reporting on quality measures that is required of us.
FQHCs contribute to the strength and well-being of their communities. Keeping individual citizens healthy translates to less absenteeism in schools and places of work. Partnering with other health and human service providers supports each others' efforts, minimizes duplication, and leverages resources. FQHCs directly contribute to the economic well-being of a community by providing jobs and purchasing goods and services, and by attracting other investments into the area.
FQHCs are here to help you and your family get the health care you need, right in your community.
LRHC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, more than half of whom must be clients of the health center.
